Contact with Middle Eastern institutions 15. Jan. 2024

In the meeting on 12 January the delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Hungary met with the Vice-Rector for Education, Elek Bartha Elek, to learn about the University of Debrecen's training and research portfolio, mobility and corporate relations.
- The University of Debrecen has the largest number of foreign students in the country, almost seven and a half thousand from more than 130 countries. They can choose from  a total of 81 study programmes in English. We have 112 students from Iraq, most of them studying medicine. We also have an outstanding number of Erasmus partners worldwide and are members of several international university organisations and programmes, such as the MIT Catalyst Programme, NeurotechEU and the Carpe consortium,"  the Vice-Rector said in his introduction to the institution.
Head of the Iraqi delegation, regional Cultural Attaché Shakir Khadim in Bucharest, called for cooperation between the universities of Debrecen and Iraq in other areas besides student mobility.

Iraqi students who have previously graduated from your university have reported only positive experiences on their return to our country, and with the high level of education they have acquired in Debrecen, they can easily manage and find a job quickly. We would like to further expand the opportunities for cooperation with students, through mobility of lecturers, visiting professors and scientific and research collaborations," said Shakir Khadim Ali.
Among the possible areas discussed between the parties were medicine and health sciences, agriculture and economics; the meeting concluded with an agreement to further discuss these areas.

The three-member delegation concluded their visit to the university with a meeting with Iraqi students.
